Over one hundred years of performance history shaped the sound and manifestation of compositions in the Viennese School: What performance practice was advocated by the composers themselves and their contemporaries? How have the works been performed since then and presented in reproductions? In this seminar, performance traditions will be interpreted in case studies, with typical examples in the context of ensemble and reception history, performance space, and forms of media transmission. Annotated scores and other written sources, as well as reproduction and sound documents (including YouTube videos with animated graphics) will be examined here.
